Naturopathic Physicians (or Naturopathic Doctors, NDs) are licensed by the state of Washington and educated in rigorous four and five-year postgraduate medical programs. The demands of practicing medicine today require that NDs are well-versed in both Western and alternative medicine. Our medical training emphasizes accurate assessment and diagnosis, and specific treatment protocols, many of which have passed the tests of both time and research.
Naturopaths treat each patient as an individual, understanding that two people with the same diagnosis can experience disease in two very different ways. We use extensive information obtained from patient interviews, laboratory testing, and physical examinations to diagnose and treat our patients on an individual basis.
Naturopathic physicians have an incredible number of treatment options before relying on drugs and surgery. These include lifestyle counseling (diet*, daily habits and exercise), including hydrotherapy and other manual therapies techniques. We believe that food can be medicine, and encourage our patients to be active participants in their treatment protocols.
Naturopathic Physicians have extensive prescriptive rights in the state of Washington. We are not opposed to the use of antimicrobials (antibiotics, antivirals, antifungal medications), but try to use them only when medically indicated and often in conjunction with other supportive measures.
